Weather in New York

New York takes its weather seriously because it has to. The city genuinely experiences all four seasons at their most intense: brutal winters with wind tunnels between the skyscrapers, humid summers where the subway becomes a sauna, perfect springs that last about three weeks, and autumns that make the whole city look like a film set. New Yorkers dress practically and move fast — the weather is an obstacle to get through.

Best time to visit

Late September to early November. The light is extraordinary, the heat has gone, and the city is at its most photogenic.

What to know

Wind chill in winter Manhattan is serious — the skyscraper corridors amplify it significantly. A 5° day with wind can feel like -10°. Always check the real feel.

ROOF insight

"The best New York weather day is a crisp October Tuesday. Blue sky, yellow leaves, empty museums. Avoid July and August unless you're prepared for the humidity."
